    Supplies delivered

    EIGHT tons of relief supplies, collected by the Shenzhen Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau and several charity organizations, arrived in Shigatse, Tibet, on Friday.

    The materials are to be distributed to people who suffered from the Nepal earthquake that took place early this month. The 7.5-magnitude earthquake caused 27 deaths and 860 injuries in Tibet.

    Black cab bash

    THE Shenzhen Municipal Transportation Commission destroyed 133 fake taxis in Longhua New Area on Thursday. This was the third time for the transportation authority to destroy fake cabs this year.

    Refurbishment

    A TOTAL of 856 flights to the Beijing Capital Airport are being canceled for a six-day period through Thursday due to the refurbishment of one of the three runways at the airport, the first refurbishment since 1996.

    China Southern Airlines will cancel 370 flights including some from Shenzhen during the six-day refurbishment, the airline’s Shenzhen division said last week.

    Wild driving

    A WOMAN has been fined 300 yuan (US$49) and one penalty point has been added to her driver’s license because she overtook 10 cars in less than three minutes on Beihuan Boulevard without signaling on Thursday.

    The woman said she overtook a few cars on the motorway because she needed to rush back home to take care of her sick child.

    iPhones framed

    A MAN was caught last week while attempting to smuggle 18 iPhones into Shenzhen from Zhongying Street in Yantian District by hiding the devices in a bike frame.

    Customs officers checked the man because he was acting strangely. The officers dismantled the bike and found 18 iPhone 6 plus models were hidden in the frame. The phones are estimated to be worth more than 130,000 yuan.
