China’s CO2 emissions fall over 4 months
    2015-05-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

IN four months, China has cut its carbon dioxide emissions. The CO2 emission reduction of China has been progressing, with the reduction amount equal to the total CO2 emissions of the U.K. in 2015.

The analysis of Greenpeace Energydesk on China’s CO2 emission said that China’s coal consumption has been reduced by 8 percent, according to The Independent. Moreover, the analysis said that China’s emissions dropped by 5 percent from January to April of this year. It is said that China’s large amount of emissions reduction was caused by its reduction in coal consumption, which according to The Independent report, dropped last year for the first time this century.

Reports about China’s CO2 emissions reduction came out just before the beginning of this year’s Paris Summit of United Nations in December, where a global partnership to address climate change issues will be discussed. This is a huge step since it can be noted that China had been opposing agreements with regard to the issue of climate change, The Independent reported.

In 2007, China overtook the United States as the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gasses.

According to data from Greenpeace Energydesk, China’s reduction in CO2 emissions from the year 2014 to 2015 is closely equal to the U.K.’s total emissions in the first four months of this year while China’s reduction in coal consumption and use is equal to four times the U.K.’s total consumption, the analysis reported.

China’s progress on reducing CO2 emissions for the first four months of this year is jaw-dropping, since China had been the biggest emitter of greenhouse gasses.

One of the talks at the United Nations Paris Summit this year is the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions to limit the increase in global temperature and to address the issue of climate change. It is said that China’s reduction of CO2 emissions is a major improvement and sets the tone for further change.(SD-Agencies)
