Galaxy Macau and Broadway Macau provide tourism new direction
    2015-05-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

GALAXY Entertainment Group Limited (GEG), one of Asia’s leading gaming and entertainment corporations, has unveiled its expanded Galaxy Macau resort and new Broadway Macau. The opening marks HK$43 billion of a HK$100 billion planned investment by GEG. It is also the first major resort opening in Macao since 2012, marking a new milestone for the city’s tourism industry.

The opening ceremony Wednesday marked a shift in Macao’s tourism development, turning from gambling-oriented development to a more diversified mode. The new brand Broadway Macau, which focuses on shopping, street culture, food and entertainment, held a street party on Wednesday, becoming a new Macao open-air landmark destination. Broadway Macau has over 40 food and beverage outlets and 20 retail outlets, of which 60 percent are Macanese owned and operated.

Currently standing at 1.1 million square meters, the resort claims to create a new source of income for Macao’s economy.

“We are firmly committed to diversifying the region’s leisure and entertainment industry. We also promise to develop and nurture local talent and promote local culture as we support the economy. Rooted in Macao, we are aligned with the Central Government’s vision of helping the territory fulfill its potential as a world center of tourism and leisure by contributing to Macao’s long-term growth,” said Li Che-woo, chairperson of GEG, at a press conference Tuesday.

Galaxy Macau offers six world-class hotels in a single destination, providing close to 4,000 rooms, suites and villas plus two spas. It includes The Ritz-Carlton’s first all-suite hotel, The Ritz-Carlton, Macau, with over 250 suites, Asia’s largest JW Marriott, JW Marriott Hotel Macau with over 1,000 rooms, Broadway Hotel with 320 rooms, Banyan Tree Macau, Hotel Okura Macau and Galaxy Hotel.

In addition, Skytop Adventure Rapids with a 575-meter-long waterslide and Skytop Wave Pool, which provides outdoor swimming experiences, are open to guests.

Broadway Macau will showcase the creativity and artistry of the people of Macao with live entertainers and street-style vendors serving local cuisine and selling local souvenirs.

The Promenade, a shopping destination and café, connects Galaxy Macau Phase 1 and Phase 2 and features over 200 luxury and lifestyle retail brands.

The new 3,000-seat Broadway Theater’s 10-screen 3-D cineplex — UA Galaxy Cinemas — will soon feature the revolutionary D-BOX MFX Cinema System, a chair that enables viewers to experience the action on the screen.
