Bad medicine
A WOMAN surnamed Qian spent 2,300 yuan (US$376) on medical examinations in Longhua and Nanshan hospitals in June. Yet when she went for a medical treatment at a city-level hospital, she was required to pay another 2,300 yuan for the same examinations.
Though the city’s health commission has required hospitals to avoid repetitive examinations since 2010, local hospitals are reluctant to comply, citing safety concerns.
Shenzhen should set up a unified medical examinations center that standardizes all medical examinations so that results will be universally recognized, suggested Xie Chun, a lawmaker.
Selective abortions
FUTIAN District Health Bureau and related government agencies conducted a 10-day investigation into illegal selective abortions.
The inspection teams closed seven unlicensed clinics and investigated three suspects for illegal medical practices.
