5-star female cabbie gives back to society
    2015-08-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AS the captain of a team of female cabbie volunteers, Sun Shulan has worked in the taxi industry for 15 years since she relocated to Shenzhen from her home in Northeast China in 2000. “I have no idea how I ended up being a cabbie in Shenzhen since I was an accountant back home,” Sun said.

Her dedication to the taxi industry has earned her a number of awards such as being rated as one of the city’s five-star cabbies and was awarded by the city’s transportation commission as one of the Top 10 Cabbies of Shenzhen.

There are more than 20,000 male cabbies in the city. Sun is among the only 200 female taxi drivers. She managed to set up a volunteer team of 48 female cabbies from more than 40 different taxi companies in 2005. The volunteer team offers free rides on a number of occasions every year, including June 7 and 8 when the national gaokao is held and on Teachers’ Day. Each female volunteer cabbie has an emergency kit in their car and services can be reserved via a hotline.

Sun said she is happy to give back to society since she lives such a happy life.(SD News)
