    Continued search demanded

    Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on August 6 that search efforts for the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 should continue to find the truth behind one of the biggest mysteries in aviation* history.

    Wang made the call after Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak confirmed that a Boeing 777 wing segment* discovered on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion is from the missing jet.

    

    Girl’s essay wins help

    A 12-year-old girl whose heartbreaking essay about the tragic loss of both her parents went viral* on the Internet has received help, West China Metropolis Daily reported on August 5.

    The girl is a fourth grade student in a poor village in Meigu County of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province.

    Donations flooded in after the story spread online. The Sichuan branch of sina.com had received about 430,000 yuan (US$70,000) for its charity program called “Help Children in Liangshan Mountains.” Donations via various online channels amounted to 920,000 yuan.

    

    Soong to run for TW leader

    Taiwan’s People First Party (PFP) Chairman James Soong Chu-yu said on August 6 that he will run for the position of Taiwan’s leader.

    Reading from a statement, Soong promised to “build a framework for the sustainable and peaceful development across the Taiwan Strait,” saying a peaceful and stable relationship between Taiwan and the mainland conforms to the common interests of both sides, the Asian-Pacific region and the world.

    

    Real-name registration

    Chinese telecom operators will require real-name registrations for its cellphone users starting from September 1.

    Both new users who register their sim cards at retail* stores and current users are required to verify their personal information at local telecom service offices. Newspaper stands and phone retailers are also required to verify ID information when selling new sim cards.(SD-Agencies)
