Moon cakes and Mid-Autumn Festival
    2015-09-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

MID-AUTUMN Festival falls on Sunday, but delicious moon cakes have been available at local stores for months. There was a time when people enjoyed the convenience of ready-to-serve moon cakes, but as more people have become concerned about food qualify and want to relive the nostalgia of tradition, homemade moon cakes have come back into fashion. Days before the festival, people start sharing moon cake recipes and methods online and post pictures of their moon cake attempts. Even some old-fashioned moon cake designs are growing in popularity.

Xu Jia, a local young professional, is very enthusiastic about homemade moon cakes. She passed on her skills yesterday to her friends in Futian. Like many southerners, Xu enjoys eating snowy moon cakes. She taught her friends to make rice-powder pastries with sweet fillings. Her moon cakes can be eaten without having to bake them first because all the materials are pre-cooked.

Xu and others across China shared some photos with Shenzhen Daily of their moon cake-making adventures. (Tan Yifan)
