    Students admitted to ANU

    Thirty-eight students from No. 3 Senior High School of Shenzhen received early admission to the Australian National University (ANU), a prestigious university that is ranked 19th on the QS list.

    The students are from the school’s international class. Since 2012, over 50 students from No. 3 Senior High School have been admitted to ANU.

    

    SZU’s new campus in Xili

    Shenzhen University’s new campus in Xili will greet its first students in May of 2017.

    Construction work started in November 2014 and one building is already finished.

    The campus, which is fully funded by the local government, is next to the South University of Science and Technology of China. It will eventually have 14 buildings and admit 5,800 students.

    

    High-quality kindergartens selected

    Last week, the city selected 60 kindergartens to be government supported quality kindergartens that will reform their education mode to provide better education.

    To promote preschool education and pilot a new education mode citywide, the 60 kindergartens were selected from among 157 first-class kindergartens. Experts and reform details will be sent to the kindergartens soon to help with the upgrade, according to local Chinese media reports.

    

    Swim champion

    Peng Jingyuan, a student from Shenzhen University Normal College Middle School, won a Shenzhen student swimming competition.

    Peng was the first place winner for the 100-meter backstroke. Thirty-two of her schoolmates also won prizes. The school’s swim team was only recently founded and this was the first time it entered the competition.

    

    Costumes for coming-of-age ceremony

    Costumes made by local designer Xu Hailan were selected as Shenzhen students’ coming-of-age costumes last week.

    Themed “18 years old, the youth,” the costume outshined 200 other entries and was worn by 68 young people who attended their 18-year-old, coming-of-age ceremony on Monday. The three-month-long costume selection saw eight costumes of various styles entered into the final round.(Tan Yifan)
