FOUR relatives of a 6-month-old boy who died at a hospital in Taikang County, Central China’s Henan Province, a day after being admitted with a high fever, have been detained for allegedly abusing medical staff, Shanghai Daily reported.
The unnamed family members became enraged when the child died Sunday afternoon despite the efforts of doctors to save him, according to a report by Henan Television.
The infant’s father claimed the child’s death was a result of him being injected with the wrong drugs and that doctors had tried to cover up their mistake, Henan Television said.
The hospital denied the allegation, it said.
The relatives then engaged in a morbid ritual in which they accused medics of being to blame for the child’s death while forcing them to hold his lifeless body, the report said.
Footage from a surveillance camera apparently showed a nurse being physically assaulted, and two of her colleagues being “paraded” around the hospital’s grounds.
Four people have been detained by police for their roles in the incident and an investigation is under way.(SD-Agencies)
