“How can we see the rainbow without experiencing rain and storms?” Without a rainstorm, we cannot see a rainbow, but even if we experience a rainstorm, there might not be a rainbow afterward.

    When I was young, I was always told that the better would come after the worst. Almost all kids are instilled with the belief that a rainbow is bound to appear after a rainstorm. With this belief, we all had a limpid childhood.

    Throughout my life, whenever I encountered difficulties, my family, my friends, my teachers and even strangers would encourage me with the “rainbow belief.” I really appreciated that everyone around me was optimistic, but as I grew up, I found that this “rainbow belief” was groundless to a certain extent.

    It was a cloudy day and also the day when my final exam results were announced. The exam was vital for me and I had prepared for it for several months. I failed. On the way home, raindrops hit my cold face and mixed with tears. I had never been so desperate. Gradually, it stopped raining. A streak of sunshine lit up the earth. I lifted up my head, but there was no rainbow waiting for me. Suddenly, it occurred to me that the “rainbow belief” was not an eternal truth and I realized that good results might not appear after a terrible situation. In addition, a rainbow can appear as long as the atmosphere is wet enough and there is sufficient sunshine. In other words, a rainstorm is not a must for a rainbow and vice versa.

    Although my exam failure depressed me and also overthrew the “rainbow belief,” it inspired me. In the past, with the help and company of family and friends, I always saw a rainbow after a rainstorm. However, I have grown up, which means I must face the world by myself. No one can knit a beautiful rainbow for me all the time and I can’t rely so much on the rainbow that I ignore the sunshine around me. After all, the “rainbow belief” is groundless, but I am ready to create my own rainbow instead of just waiting for it.

    The “rainbow belief” is gone, but the “sunshine belief” is coming. Every cloud has a silver lining. The sun will always be there after a rainstorm even if there is no rainbow.
