After the Internet was disconnected
    2015-10-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

At around five in the afternoon, chaos prevailed among the students — we could not log on to the Internet. This event seemed like a five-pound bomb that totally destroyed our routine and original plans. For me, because of the broken connection, I was not able to prepare for an upcoming group meeting. Walking the corridor, I heard some of my classmates complaining. At the moment, it seemed to me that human beings are fragile and weak because merely being unable to access the Internet can easily bring fear and anxiety. Is the Internet so important that we cannot live without it?

I recalled my friend Sandy. Sandy did an experiment in which he forced himself not to connect the Internet for a whole week. During the first two days, a sense of deep anxiety overcame him. Keeping away from the Internet made him feel like he didn’t know his surroundings, which frustrated him very much. For the next few days, he slowly adapted to the change. By communicating with others and watching the news on TV, Sandy began to enjoy living a simpler and more comfortable life. He didn’t need to stick to the Internet. What’s more, his health also improved.

This story made me wonder — what role does the Internet play in a person’s life?

The Internet has two sides. For those who have strict discipline and strong self-control, the Internet can add value to their work and life. For others, the Internet is likely to take control of every second and minute.

Although the Internet was created by human beings, why do we human beings seem to be controled by our creation?

Almost three hours later, the Internet connection was restored. The whole college was immersed in an atmosphere of joy. But I was still in my own world, lost in deep thought about the Internet and people.
