International school’s charity Thanksgiving bazaar

The Academy, an international school located in Shekou, Nanshan District, held a charity fundraising event in the form of an international Thanksgiving bazaar last Saturday in support of A Heart for China, a Shenzhen-based charity organization.

The event attracted 171 people, both locals and international friends. Visitors were able to sample and purchase items from a variety of local and international sellers.

There were a number of children’s activities, including a turkey hunt, an archery tournament and a variety of art and craft options that all followed the theme of Thanksgiving.

According to the organizer, the Academy raised 2,500 yuan (US$391) for A Heart for China from the bazaar, with extra money raised and given directly to the Heart for China stall on the day of the event.

The Academy will be using the money they collected to purchase much-needed diapers for children with special needs, ranging from 2-16 years of age, as requested by the charity. Through the event, the organizer wanted to remind the participants of the reason for celebrating Thanksgiving.

”The Thanksgiving feeling at its best at this first IPA charity event is bringing people together and at the same time supporting a charity organization. That’s what Thanksgiving is all about!” said Ronny Verdoodt, founder of A Heart for China.
