Nanshan teenagers awarded funds to create inventions
    2015-11-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Eleven students from Nanshan District took a host of inventions to the China Hi-Tech Fair at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center last week. Visitors and fellow exhibitors were so impressed by the students’ inventions that they awarded the youngsters with 130,000 yuan (US$20,345) to develop more innovative projects.

Some of the items the youths displayed were an intelligent gas switch, a generator operated by temperature difference and a multifunctional music stand.

One of the young talents, Liu Zhen from Wenhua School of Nanshan Foreign Language School, showcased his generator at the fair. “The fans of the generator will start to operate when it reads an outside temperature of 100 degrees Celsius; it generates power thanks to the Seebeck effect,” Liu explained.

One visitor to the fair surnamed Jin stayed at the exhibition booth for a long time and was impressed by the students’ inventions. He said the students’ creativity and hands-on abilities were beyond his imagination.

Jin said the students were helping to solve minor or major problems in life. The students gave him hope for the future of education in Nanshan District.

Wang Keyong, the person in charge of the incubator, said that some inventions created by the students had already received national patents.
