    Jungfrau Marathon

    The first Jungfrau Marathon in Switzerland was held in 1993, and it’s been uphill from there ever since! The race is in full view of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau mountains in the Bernese Oberland area of the Swiss Alps.

    TCS Amsterdam Marathon

    In 2014, the TCS Amsterdam Marathon had 16,000 registered marathon runners. This makes it the largest marathon in the Netherlands, and is one of the largest European marathons.

    Great Wall of China Marathon

    When one thinks about a marathon in an exciting place, few hold a candle to the Great Wall of China! The race has views of villages and surrounding scenery, with over 3,000 runners last year.

    New York Marathon

    With 50,530 finishers in 2014, the NYC Marathon welcomes runners from across the globe. The 45-year-old race winds over bridges through all five boroughs for an exciting and beautiful autumn marathon.

    Antarctic Marathon

    Those who run this race are adventurers to say the least. For US$12,852, you can be flown round-trip from Punta Arenas, Chile, to the Union Glacier camp in the interior of the Antarctic, to run a marathon on the seventh continent!

    Northern Chile Volcano Marathon

    This year marks the fifth Northern Chile Volcano Marathon. As one of the highest elevation marathons, at 14,682 feet, runners have to prepare in a whole new way physically for this scenic and invigorating race. The path is 75 percent dirt roads, and the organizers advise preparing for acclimation.

    Machu Picchu Marathon

    The Inca Trail Marathon to Machu Picchu describes itself not only as a physical, but a cultural, adventure. Running through archaeological sites and ancient temples will have you focused on moving forward.

    Great Ocean Road Marathon

    Victoria, Australia, on the Southern Ocean, provides one of the most breathtaking views a runner could experience. With 1,033 runners in 2015, the race attracts competitors from everywhere who are up for a winding race along the coast.

    Marrakech Marathon

    Over 6,000 marathoners from all over the world ran through Marrakech, Morocco, last January in this exciting race. The route is described as “flat and rapid” through villages and countryside.

    Cayman Islands Marathon

    What better way to spend time on the Cayman Islands than to run a race? The December run is in its 13th year, and winds through beautiful foliage, charming homes, and beaches. (SD-Agencies)
