Initiative to help firms go global
    2016-04-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A RESEARCH initiative was officially launched March 16 to identify Shenzhen’s most promising companies and help Shenzhen-based companies expand their global presence.

The Globalization.Shenzhen 100, jointly launched by CSOFT International Ltd., a Beijing-headquartered provider of globalization and localization solutions, and the Futian economic promotion bureau and the Nanshan economic promotion bureau, is a blend of hard data and qualitative indicators that provides a comprehensive ranking of global maturity among Shenzhen companies.

By identifying the city’s most promising startup and globally maturing companies, the project seeks to become the go-to resource for investors, policymakers and businesses for understanding Shenzhen’s economic and entrepreneurial landscape. It also aims to guide them toward actionable solutions for stimulating innovation, encouraging global expansion and promoting the city’s long-term growth, project initiators said.

“Shenzhen’s continuous growth and entrepreneurial spirit give me confidence that more and more global innovators are going to come out of this city,” said Shunee Yee, president and CEO of CSOFT International.

“Shenzhen has the potential to become the world’s next Silicon Valley, but in order to do that, it needs to have at least 100 influential brands, and that’s what this project is all about. We are not only here to inspire the future, but also position the city’s most opportune companies along the path to globalization,” she said.

Shenzhen is not only a capital of electronics manufacturing, it also boasts one of the highest gross domestic product growth in China and is home to prominent tech companies such as Huawei, Tencent, DJI and Mindray. Shenzhen’s perpetual growth makes it an ideal location to launch such an initiative, Yee said. “Due to its historical significance as a miracle city where China’s transformation first began, Shenzhen deserves our full attention and that’s what this project is all about.”

Shenzhen Vice Mayor Chen Biao said that the objectives of the Globalization.Shenzhen 100 are perfectly aligned with Shenzhen’s future direction. “This project will allow our city’s entrepreneurs and innovators to thrive globally,” he said.

As an increasing number of Shenzhen companies try to expand from local to foreign markets, they find the process of going global can be difficult and are filled with obstacles. For example, they find out that the language and cultural barriers have proven challenging and sometimes even insurmountable.

Xiao Yafei, chief of the Futian district government, said that the service provided by CSOFT International, which has its Shenzhen office at an office building at the central business district in Futian, has turned out to be very useful to many Futian-based businesses looking to expand into global markets.

CSOFT Globalization Institute (CGI), a research arm under CSOFT International that focuses on analyzing globalization maturity in four core industries — health care, high technology, new energy and consumer goods and services — is tasked with executing the Globalization.Shenzhen 100 project.(Yang Yang)
