Utensil counts calories in each bite
    2016-04-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

This smart cutlery could be a dieter’s worst nightmare, or the weight loss tool you’ve been dreaming about.

Spun claims to be the world’s most intelligent utensil, using a combination of image recognition and motion sensing technology to measure food as users eat it.

The device, which has an interchangeable stainless steel spoon or fork head, weighs each mouthful of food to calculate the calories and nutrients being eaten.

The information is logged in a smartphone app, which can help dieters set goals and monitor their progress.

When the user hits their target in a meal, the Spun, which is pronounced spoon, will then alert them to tell them to stop eating.

Spun also keeps track of the speed at which people eat, vibrating if it thinks they are taking too many mouthfuls.

The device apparently works using an image of your plate of food taken using its smartphone app.

Image recognition software detects different types of food and matches it to an online database.

Accelerometers* in the Spun, which connects via Bluetooth to the phone, works out which of the foods is being picked up, weighs it and allows the app to calculate the calorie and nutrient content.(SD-Agencies)
