    Baidu listings

    The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) on Monday demanded an overhaul* of China’s leading search-engine Baidu following an investigation.

    The CAC said Baidu relied excessively on profits from paid listings in search results, and did not clearly label such listings as the result of commercial promotion, compromising* the objectivity* and impartiality* of search results.

    Kidney stolen

    A man who said his right kidney was stolen at a hospital in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, during surgery to deal with injuries from a tractor rollover*, got a new medical checkup in Nanjing after he sued for compensation of 2 million yuan (US$307,800).

    The man, Liu Yongwei, was checked at Nanjing General Hospital in the provincial capital. A panel of experts was invited to analyze the results, and a conclusion will be drawn soon.

    Fujian landslide

    At least 33 people were missing after a landslide hit Southeast China’s Fujian Province early on Sunday morning, sources with authorities in Sanming City said.

    A construction site for a hydropower* station was hit by a landslide at 4:46 a.m. on Sunday in Kaishan Township, Taining County, Sanming City, cnr.cn reported. By Sunday evening, 13 people were rescued while 33 remain missing.

    Most workers were sleeping when about 100,000 cubic meters of mud and rocks flowed downhill, burying the construction site of the station and its office building, local news portal fjsen.com reported.

    Doctor killed

    A retired doctor in Guangdong Province died on Saturday after being stabbed in a knife attack by a former patient on Thursday afternoon.

    Chen Zhongwei, former director of the stomatology* department of the Guangdong General Hospital, who had fallen into a coma after suffering life-threatening injuries, died at 12:39 p.m. after 43 hours of emergency treatment, the hospital announced. Chen was attacked around 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, according to police in Yuexiu District in Guangzhou. (SD-Agencies)
