The world house
    2016-05-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A famous novelist said, “A widely separated family inherits a house in which they have to live together.” It means that we human beings inherited a large house, a great “world house” in which we have to live together — black and white, Easterner and Westerner, and so on — a family unduly separated by ideas, cultures and interests, that, because we can never again live apart, must learn somehow to live with each other in peace. I think my university is a mini “world house” in which everyone must learn to live together in peace.

First of all, the fast development of technology has transformed the earth into a mini “world house” in which it is easy and convenient for everyone to communicate or keep track of others. As a result, it leads to a trend of globalization. When we travel abroad, we are faced with various different and special things. Perhaps we may not be familiar with the different places or cultures. However, only by showing respect and understanding can we enjoy our “world house.” At the same time, when we are willing to accept the differences and to live in peace with others, we will benefit from it — enjoying a harmonious “world house.”

What’s more, we need to learn to live in peace in the mini “world house,” not only because peace can bring us development and happiness but also because without peace, the human race will encounter great disasters.

In all ages, there were so many terrible things that were made by human beings. We live in the same world but we do not realize the importance and necessity of peace. For example, the Nazis killed thousands of Jews just because Hitler could not accept Judaism. In general, there are seven major religions in the world and most people have their own religious beliefs. Though we live in the same “world house,” it is impossible for everyone to embrace the same belief. Thus, we are expected to be ourselves and also show respect to others. Sometimes, we wage a war or to hurt others for the purpose of self-profit. However, as an old saying goes, “Curses always come home to roost.” When we plan to break the peace, it will backfire, which means we will earn a bad end, too.

In brief, advanced technology has made our world a “world house,” which means we humans are becoming more and more related, so if we don’t learn to live in peace, development and progress are bound to lead us to perdition.
