SHENZHEN traffic police fined 121 nonlocal vehicles that ran on restricted roads and areas during rush hour in the city over the past week after a new rule was implemented.
The ban, which took effect April 15, had extended to cover some roads in Longgang and Bao’an districts, and the Longhua, Guangming, Pingshan and Dapeng new areas.
Police officially implemented the rule starting May 16 after a one-month grace period and caught 5,110 violations by 4,415 vehicles. Among them, 121 drivers were fined for violating the rule three times. Drivers are exempt from punishment for the first two violations.
Among the 121 violations, vehicles registered in Dongguan accounted for 19 percent, and vehicles registered in Huizhou accounted for 26.45 percent of the total, police said. Vehicles registered in Guangdong Province made up 75 percent. Violators each were fined 300 yuan (US$46) and had three penalty points added to their licenses.
Statistics showed Meilong Road and Donghuan No.2 Road had the most violations by nonlocal vehicles.
“Drivers of nonlocal vehicles who want to enter Shenzhen during rush hour on work days can apply once a month through the Internet,” said Yao Limin, a police officer with the monitoring section of Shenzhen police technology department.
