Several top universities in Guangdong Province have published their enrollment plans in Guangdong. It is estimated that the seven universities will take in 31,000 students from Guangdong this year. In China, high-school students are accepted to universities based on the results of their gaokao (National College Entrance Exam). To be able to be enrolled into the top universities, graduates need to score above a first-tier mark. Zhou Qin, director of the admission office at South China University of Technology, said that the university plans to enroll 6,300 students and 2,907 quotas will be assigned to Guangdong students. The university’s international institution of advanced material will start to enroll its first batch of students this September. The institution will open a major in materials science and engineering. All courses will be taught in English and students will have exchange opportunities during the program, according to Zhou. Jinan University in Guangzhou will recruit 2,220 new students inside of Guangdong Province this year, taking half of its enrollment quota around the country. The university has added several new majors and most of the new programs are in science and technology. The Guangdong University of Foreign Studies will enroll the same number of students as last year. It will accept 5,000 students from across the country with 4,159 places for Guangdong students. The university opened two new majors this year, Greek language studies and public relations. There are 66 undergraduate programs in the university with 22 foreign language programs. The other top universities that have announced enrollment plans are Shantou University (1,345 students), Guangdong University of Technology (8,076 students), South China Normal University (5,350 students) and South China Agricultural University (7,188 students).(Zhang Qian) |
