    Murder case retrial

A CIRCUIT court under the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) has been assigned to conduct a retrial of a rape and murder case in which a man was found guilty and executed two decades ago.

The Second SPC Circuit Court in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, will rehear the case of Nie Shubin, the SPC said in a statement yesterday. A review found that evidence presented in the original trial was insufficient to identify Nie as the perpetrator beyond all doubt.

Nie, from Hebei Province, was convicted and executed in 1995 for the rape and murder of a woman. In 2005, another man confessed to the crime.

    Arsonist gets death

A MAN has been sentenced to death by a court in East China’s Shandong Province on Tuesday for setting a bus on fire in August 2014.

The defendant, Xu Xiaofu, sought revenge on society by causing the fire that left three people dead and 16 others injured because his improper demands had not been met, said the Intermediate People’s Court of Yantai City, without specifying Xu’s demand.

Xu took a bus with a bottle of petrol in his bag and started a fire on the bus in the city of Longkou on Aug. 20, 2014.
