RIDERS taking business-class carriages on Metro Line 11 need to buy orange-colored tokens at dispensers installed at stations along the line.

Those who transfer to Metro Line 11 from other lines and want to take business carriages need to buy the orange tokens before taking the train, the Shenzhen Metro Group said in a news release Thursday, explaining fare details.

Shenzhentong card users need to scan their cards at the reading stand installed on the platform before taking the business carriages. If they change their minds and don’t want to use the business carriages, which have 112 seats, they can cancel the purchase within 20 minutes at the service center.

Riders of business carriages will leave Metro stations using dedicated exits.

Those who buy tickets for regular carriages and use the business carriages will be fined 10 times the cost of the trip.

According to the fare plan approved by the city’s urban planning authority, Metro Line 11 will adopt two fare systems for six regular carriages and two business carriages.

For regular carriages, riders need to pay 2 to 10 yuan (US$0.3-1.52) for a trip along the 51.94-km line that runs through Futian, Nanshan and Bao’an districts. But for the two business carriages, the starting price is 6 yuan and the maximum price for the whole trip is 30 yuan.

After the opening of Metro Line 11, the trip from Shuanglong Station on Longgang Line to Bitou Station on Line 11 (89.7km) will cost 14 yuan. For the business carriages, the cost will 35 yuan.

The city’s Metro fare is calculated with a starting price of 2 yuan. An additional 1 yuan is added every 4 kilometers for rides between 4 kilometers and 12 kilometers. An additional 1 yuan is added to the price every 6 kilometers for rides between 12 kilometers and 24 kilometers.

For rides beyond 24 kilometers, riders pay an additional 1 yuan for a distance of 8 kilometers.

Based on this standard, the trip from Futian Station in Futian CBD to Shenzhen International Airport will cost 7 yuan for regular riders and 21 yuan for business riders.

Line 11 starts from Futian Station and ends at Bitou Station in Bao’an District.
