SZ student wins 1st prize in preliminary piano contest
    2016-07-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Zhang Shuyi, a student from Shenzhen University Normal College Middle School, won first prize in Youth Class and Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody Class in the preliminary contest of the 2016 Liszt Memorial Prizes Hong Kong-International Piano Open Competition, which was held from June 18 to 19 in Shenzhen.

Zhang performed Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6” in the competition. She revealed vivid musical characters and expressions in performing “Petrouchka of Stravinsky.” The 17-minute-long challenging performance was commended by the jury.

Zhang began playing piano at 5 years old. In 2009, she started to learn piano under Qiu Yinghong, a renowned pianist and conductor. Under the guidance of Qiu, her musical ability further developed. She has won several prizes at piano competitions associated with the Hong Kong Asia-Pacific Piano Competition, the Pearl-River Piano Competition and Shenzhen Piano Open Competition.

Zhang also communicated with other contestants in the contest and shared her beloved music with the audience.

The Liszt Memorial Prizes Hong Kong-International Piano Open Competition has a high reputation in Asia. The competition is held every two years. The jury members of the final round are from different countries, with Li Mingqiang as art consultant and chairman of the jury and Arbo Valdma, professor of piano at Cologne University of Music, as art director.
