Thousands of teenager wind instrument players, from Shenzhen, other Chinese cities and Germany, have gathered at a high school in Bao’an District for a week-long summer camp. Wearing blue T-shirts and green bracelets made of sea-grass, the teenagers were attending the summer camp’s opening ceremony on Saturday, getting ready for a week of music. During the summer camp, an array of dynamic activities have been organized. The young players of wind instruments will be able to join several concerts, competitions, lectures, training sessions and so forth. It is the third time that Xixiang Subdistrict in Bao’an has organized this summer camp. This year, the organizers invited 60 teachers and students from Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media to spend one week living and training with students from Shenzhen, Hunan and Guizhou provinces. According to the organizer, the purpose of the summer camp was to enhance the development of Chinese teenagers’ skills in playing wind instruments, and also to foster better communication between Chinese and German teenagers. Apart from the daily activities, the participants will also perform at the Xixiang subvenue for the upcoming 2016 Bao’an Industry Development Expo. The Xixiang area is famous for its development in wind music. There are currently 18 wind bands formed at 14 schools in Xixiang Subdistrict, with over 1,000 students participating in the bands.
