Father suspected of abusing infant son
    2016-August-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AN unmarried mother, surnamed Rao, of a 2-month-old son called the Guangdong TV to disclose that the boy’s father was abusing the infant.

According to Rao, who is a make-up artist, she received a call from the father, known as Deng, on Aug. 14 during a business trip she had taken to Hunan Province. Rao was told that her child was in the ICU receiving treatment, and she rushed back to Shenzhen.

Rao said that she had to leave the 2-month-old with his father, because she needed to travel to Hunan and had no time to care for the baby. However, she did not expect her child would suffer a cerebral hemorrhage, or any other serious injury, in only two weeks.

The photos she provided showed that there were injuries on both sides of the infant’s cheek, and Rao said that her child experienced seizures all around his body. The Shenzhen Children’s Hospital’s diagnosis confirmed that the child was being abused.

According to a psychological therapist’s analysis, people who abuse children lack sympathy for the weak. The crying of a child is a signal asking for help, but abusive men perceive the crying as annoying.

Longgang police said that Deng called the police saying that his son had been beaten into having a cerebral hemorrhage by someone else.

The police discovered that the man was lying, but failed to detain him, because he was the baby’s only custodian at the moment.

Rao said that she met her boyfriend at the Luohu Commercial City one year ago. Deng did not have stable work and occasionally found part-time jobs at bars.

The birth of the baby was also an accident for the young couple. Rao said that Deng hit her when she was 8-months pregnant because they were arguing about him draining her credit card.

The infant had to leave the hospital, because the mother was in debt over 20,000 yuan (US$3,004) at the moment, but Rao said she would never abandon her son and would raise him on her own.

Police said that they would ask the mother before deciding whether to continue with their investigation.
