CONSTRUCTION on the Metro Line 3 extension project, an important aspect of the city’s going east strategy, was officially kicked off Thursday.

The 9.2-km line includes a 6.7-kilometer elevated bridge and a 2.24-kilometer underground tunnel. It starts from Line 3’s Shuanglong Station and ends at Liulian Station in Pingdi Subdistrict, Longgang District.

It goes along Longgang Boulevard and Pingxi Road and has seven stations.

The project costs about 7 billion yuan (US$1.05 billion) and will be put into operation at the end of 2020.
