A Ding adinglily@hotmail.com TWELVE people, including seven expats from Norway, Britain, the United States, Russia and the Philippines, attended a cooking class at the Belle-Vue restaurant at Grand Hyatt Shenzhen on Saturday. They learned two dishes taught by chef Marcelo Urresti, ate what they cooked themselves together with a special dish from the chef, and shared interests in cooking. The free culinary course was jointly organized by the Shenzhen Daily and Grand Hyatt Shenzhen. More than 100 applications were submitted through the Shenzhen Daily and the Eyeshenzhen WeChat platforms and 12 participants were finally chosen for their real interest in fine dining and cooking. “It’s such an invaluable opportunity to learn two dishes from the chef — cured tuna tartar and lemon ice cream. He also taught us how to make a special kind of bread. He also cooked a French-style beef steak for us. I learned a lot from the class,” said Nadia Maria, who is an American teacher from Shenzhen University. “It was an amazing experience to learn how to cook gourmet food in a wonderful setting, with a warm-hearted and talented chef and with such a diverse and fun group of people,” said Carol Quinn from Britain, who has lived in Shenzhen for eight years. The Shenzhen Daily will continue organizing events for its readers via the newspaper, the Shenzhen Daily WeChat account, the Eyeshenzhen WeChat account, and the city’s English portal www.eyeshenzhen.com. |
