An impressive lesson
    2016-09-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Last week, we had a wonderful lesson on the strategy of using Total Physical Response (TRP). This strategy which I learned played an important role in learning English.

The lesson started with a song called “Big Big World.” It was such a lovely song and I loved it so much. Then, we summarized what we learned in the last lesson briefly. Everyone was very active in class and expressed our ideas freely. Li Xiang gave us an example of his applying “taking risks wisely” to speak to foreigners on the street, which is very encouraging.

Later, we had an activity called “challenging myself,” which was to find four words beginning with AIDA for an advertisement. We were very active in brainstorming and made creative sentences. This activity improved our thinking as well as our speaking and writing.

Next, the teacher began to teach us TPR. The most interesting part was that we played a game using TPR. I acted as the teacher. For example, when I said, “Simple Simon says, stand up, all the class should act according to the instructions to stand up.” However, if I say, “stand up,” all the class shouldn’t do anything. If a person stands up, he/she will lose. The final person left at the end becomes the champion. Because I gave simple instructions, we had three champions. The teacher used this game to make every one of us involved, and we were all very active. After that, we learned and practiced a song called “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” all the while using TPR.

All in all this was a useful, effective and impressive lesson.
