US fighter jet crashes
A U.S. Marine Corps AV-8 Harrier fighter jet crashed Thursday into the ocean off the coast of southwestern Okinawa in Japan, but the pilot ejected safely from the aircraft and was rescued.
The U.S. military in Camp Butler in Okinawa said the cause of the crash is still under investigation. The aircraft had been assigned to Okinawa, which hosts more than half of the 50,000 U.S. troops based in Japan under a bilateral security agreement.
THAAD discussion
SOUTH KOREAN parliamentary speaker asked the government to discuss whether to deploy a U.S. missile shield in its soil as it is a state affair of very importance.
National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun told a press conference that such an issue as the deployment of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) should be discussed between the government and the parliament as it is a very important state affair, according to local media reports.
Ex-official tried for graft
XU GANG, former vice governor of Southeast China’s Fujian Province, stood trial Thursday for accepting bribes.
Xu accepted bribes worth 19.77 million yuan (US$2.97 million) either by himself or through his wife, Yu Na, from 2005 to 2014, according to the indictment from the People’s Procuratorate of Hefei, capital of Anhui Province.
Waste dumping case
TOTALLY 15 have been arrested on suspicion of involvements in the sensational Taihu Lake dumping case that has caused environment pollution.
Five suspects allegedly involved in an illegal wastes dumping case at Taihu Lake, Jiangsu Province, in early July have been arrested by procuratorates in Jiangsu for causing environmental damage and dereliction of duty, China’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate said on its website Thursday.
