THE 2nd Shenzhen International Photography Week opened Thursday afternoon at the Shenzhen Art Museum in Luohu District. It will last until Nov. 6.

“The photography week provides a platform where photographers from various countries can communicate and citizens can enjoy the top photographic works in Shenzhen,” Song Qiang, vice head of the Luohu District Government, said at the opening ceremony Thursday afternoon.

“In order to create a cross-cultural, artistic, academic and high-quality photographic exhibition, we offer Chinese audiences this opportunity to take a close look at original photography masters from all over the world,” said Sun Chengyi, chief curator of the photography week.

The photography week has been certified by the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), an international organization of national associations of photography. This is the third international exhibition in China to have received FIAP certification, following those in Beijing and Shanghai.

“For this photography week, we are honored to host the exhibition named ‘Made in Germany — German Photography From the 19th Century Until Today,’ which showcases 160 original works from top German photography masters of various schools and historical styles,” Sun said. “This is the first time that audiences can appreciate these original works in China.”

Stephen White, a famous American collector, will give a lecture and present on the world history of color photography. Another Finnish-American photographer, Arno Rafael Minkkinen, will present a series of new works using smart technology.

Like the previous one, the 2nd Shenzhen International Photography Week will go on a tour to visit top Chinese museums in 2017. (More on Page 11)
