Money raised for leukemia patients

JOSE CARRERAS is not just known for his talent as a tenor, but also for the devotion he shows to charities that benefit leukemia patients after he himself recovered from the disease in 1988.

The pride of his hometown Barcelona sent a scarf, an autographed photo, and a CD that was issued in 2013 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the international leukemia foundation that was named after him with a letter of thanks to an auction Thursday afternoon. The tenor’s personal articles, along with the other donated pieces, fetched a little more than 100,000 yuan (US$14,700) at the charity auction at Kempinski Shenzhen, which will help local leukemia patients get access to treatment.

The money that was raised will be donated to the Shenzhen Media Group Charity Foundation, which will see that the money is used for local leukemia patients.
