Armor protects dogs from being mauled
    2016-11-02  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    英国人发明狗狗背心 防止小狗被恶犬咬伤

A kitchen fitter* has designed body armor for small dogs to protect them from being mauled by bigger breeds.

Bradley Davis, 43, created the padded suit after hearing about “The Only Way Is Essex” star Bobby Norris’ beloved pet, Beau, being savaged by a more aggressive* dog. The dog-lover spent months researching and perfecting the armor.

The Doggy Armor features a tough protective collar to safeguard the neck and is made of tightly woven fabric which the manufacturer claims is “designed for military load carriage equipment, where toughness and durability* is required.”

The product comes in three sizes, super small for dogs like Chihuahuas, extra small and small/medium size.

Davis claimed his design is the first of its kind in Britain. He said: “They have them in America called Coyote jackets, but these are more to stop dogs being carried off by eagles. They have spikes on them to stop eagles and dogs attacking them.”

During his testing for the product, Davis drove over a prototype* with nails to check if the material could withstand the pressure of bites and prevent punctures* by teeth.

He added: “It is not that dogs have sharp teeth, but they can put a lot of pressure and penetrate* the skin. This can lead to all sorts of infections* from the bite and very high vet bills and death. The jacket won’t prevent the crushing, but it will give the little dog a chance. It will also prevent the owner from wanting to try and reach in to rescue their dog as you don’t want to be putting your hand near their mouths.”(SD-Agencies)
