Chinese dies in Nigeria
TWO Chinese people were attacked by gunmen Nov. 28 in Nasarava State, Nigeria, and one of them died, which was confirmed by the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria.
It’s reported that the two were attacked when they were on the way back home from a mining camp. One died on the spot, along with three Nigerians that were sitting with them in a car, reports Xinhua News.
Ex-TV head probed
FORMER head of Jiangsu’s provincial broadcasting corporation Zhou Li was reportedly taken into custody by procuratorial organs last week for “financial issues.”
65-year-old Zhou served as head of the corporation from 2003 to 2014.
Reporters from Jiangsu TV said Zhou was always straightforward and enterprising, and had made great contributions to the development of Jiangsu TV.
1 arrested for arson
THE birthplace of the father of South Korea’s scandal-hit President Park Geun-Hye was damaged in an arson attack Thursday, police said, with the suspect allegedly calling on the leader to quit.
The suspected arson attack damaged the memorial hall of the house where former military dictator Park Chung-Hee was born in the southern city of Gumi, police said. A 48-year-old man was arrested nearby for suspected arson.
Colombian peace deal
COLOMBIA’S Congress approved a new peace deal with FARC rebels late Wednesday, despite objections from former President and now Senator Alvaro Uribe, who said it was still too lenient on the insurgents who have battled the government for 52 years.
The agreement was approved in the lower house 130-0, a day after the Senate ratified it 75-0.
