    Official dies in fall

    A RETIRED civil servant with Futian District Government was confirmed dead after a fall from an office building Friday, Futian Public Security Subbureau said on its official microblog. The person, surnamed Liao, had recently retired. The cause is still under investigation.

    New flight

    A PLANE from Shenzhen landed at Xi’an Xianyang International Airport on Friday, marking the official opening of a Shenzhen-Xingyi-Xi’an route operated by Donghai Airlines.

    The DZ6231 flight departs from Shenzhen at 9:05 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and at 6:20 a.m every other day. It leaves Xi’an at 3:15 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and at 12:55 p.m. every other day.

    Official removed

    GUO SHIJU, a department director with the Shenzhen Economic, Trade and Information Commission, has been removed from his post and expelled from the Party for a disciplinary violation, the Shenzhen Party discipline inspection commission said on its official microblog. Guo allegedly reported false personal information, took cash gifts and abused duty to take bribes by buying stocks at prices much lower than market value.

    Donation to sick girl

    A LOCAL financial services company donated 500,000 yuan (US$72,700) to the family of Luo Yixiao, a 6-year-old girl who suffers from leukemia and is receiving treatment at Shenzhen Children’s Hospital.

    The company had promised to donate 1 yuan for each repost of the stories on the public account of Luo Er, the girl’s father, with a ceiling set at 500,000 yuan. The money will be used for the treatment of the girl, who is still in serious condition.

    DUI violations

    SHENZHEN police had stopped 8,818 people for driving under the influence of alcohol, including 3,425 drunk driving violations by the end of November this year.

    Among them, 97.1 percent were men and 28 percent were Guangdong natives, followed by Hunan natives at 12.9 percent and Hubei natives at 9.9 percent. Drivers between 30 and 39 years old accounted for 44 percent of the total.

    Drunk drivers whose blood alcohol content reached 80mg/100ml, the legal limit for drunk driving, will be criminally charged and face prison terms of one to six months.

    Good drivers

    TEN drivers in the city who hadn’t had any violations or accident reports for three consecutive years were awarded one ton of fuel at a ceremony Friday marking the 5th National Traffic Safety Promotion Day.

    Shenzhen police said that the city has given out 1.1 million yuan to local residents who reported traffic violators to police’s service platform via WeChat, Alipay, microblog or Internet browser since April.

    Hotel death

    ONE person was killed and another was injured in an accident in the apartment building of China Merchants Meilun Hotel Management Co. on Saturday.

    The accident happened when two scrap collectors tried to cut an empty fuel tank with an electric welder. The two people did not have licenses for electric welding. The case is still under investigation.
