TWO teachers in Wenzhou, East China’s Zhejiang Province, have been put under house arrest for beating their students.
After discovering bruises on their child, the parents hid a recorder in their child’s backpack to find out how the bruises were getting there.
On Thursday, the parents uploaded an edited audio recording online which prompted an immediate investigation from both the police and the education bureau.
Police confirmed that the two teachers did beat the child Saturday. Police officers are still investigating whether or not there were other children being similarly treated.
The private kindergarten returned the tuition fees to the parents who had children in the same class and psychologists have been hired for the aftermath.
The city’s education bureau urged the kindergarten to fire the two teachers. The educational level of the kindergarten has been officially reduced.
All kindergartens in the city are now required to implement improvements by the education bureau to avoid similar issues.
Parents have been discussing the mistreatment around China, and it seems most private kindergartens are at fault.
Almost two-thirds of kindergartens in China are privately owned, according to statistics, public ones are too few to meet the requirement.
To turn a profit, private kindergartens cut costs by paying teachers low salaries and not hiring to their skill level, some are not even qualified to teach.
The government is committed to helping private kindergartens improve the quality of education by financially supporting them and educating teachers adequately.(CRI)
