Smartduvet app will do hard work for you
    2016-12-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Making the bed may well be one of the most loathed household chores and one company wants to put an end to it.

The Smartduvet is designed to make the bed itself, using an app-controlled inflatable* sheet.

The device doesn’t replace existing bedding, but is placed between the duvet and duvet cover. When activated, the grid-shaped sheet inflates, placing the duvet back in position.

The inflatable sheet can easily be taken out and replaced when changing the sheets, say the makers.

The inflatable layer is made of breathable lightweight material. The smart system also includes a box containing the blower that inflates the sheet, along with the electronic hardware that connects it to the user’s smartphone. This is designed to sit under the bed.

The app, which will be available on both iOS and Android, enables users to preset a different bed-making time for each day of the week. The device is available in a range of sizes to fit single, double, queen and king-size beds.

The Montreal-based makers are currently seeking backers to provide US$22,565 on crowd-funding* site Kickstarter.

“Throughout history, we have seen revolutionary inventions change the way we live every day,” said the Smartduvet firm on its website. “The dishwasher, washing machine and dryer as well as the micro-wave all took their place in our day-to-day lives and today we can’t imagine living without them. With your help, we believe the same can be true with bed making.”

Prices for early backers start at US$269 for a Smartduvet to fit a single bed, going up to US$294 for a king-size bed.

If the project reaches its fundraising goal by the deadline on December 27, it plans to begin shipping the product in May 2017.
