A satellite model assembled by dozens of teenagers from 30 schools around the country will be upgraded and launched into space in the first half of 2017. The national special training camp to produce the satellite model had just ended in Hainan Province on January 22.

Under the instruction of Qi Faren, the chief designer of the Shenzhou Spaceship, and other aerospace experts, the delegation of students and teachers jointly competed in the designing and assembling of the “Teenager Star” satellite model during the training camp.

The students had learned to assemble the satellite model with an aerospace technological tool kit provided by the Shenzhen-based Chaihuo Maker Space. The maker space provided the core technology for the training camp.

At the closing ceremony, the students handed in the model they assembled. After being upgraded by professional teams, the real satellite will be launched this year.

This event was a part of a national campaign targeting young students with maker dreams and especially those interested in aerospace technology. The campaign was jointly organized by China Song Ching Ling Foundation, China Association for Science and Technology and Chinese Society of Education.

During the training camp, both students and their teachers experienced an array of training including all sorts of missions and courses pertaiining to aerospace knowledge, designing of satellites as well as touring around the emission center in Wenchang.
