Elvis Costello plots North American summer tour
    2017-03-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Elvis Costello & the Imposters announced a North American summer tour launching June 3 in Berkeley, California and concluding July 25 in Providence, Rhode Island. The 20-date run — a continuation* of their fall 2016 trek, “Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambers” — uses material from 1982’s Imperial Bedroom as a jumping-off point.

In a statement, Costello clarified that the band isn’t aiming for nostalgia* with their recent shows. “We never intended to recite this book from cover to cover,” he said. “Listen to our new arrangement of ‘Tears Before Bedtime’ — it gets straight to the real meaning of that song, the way we hear and feel it today. Back in 1982, I might have been a step or two ahead of our crowd in the tragic, romantic stakes, but I sense that they’ve all caught up with me now.”

The current Imposters lineup features Costello’s long-running backing band — drummer Pete Thomas, singer-bassist Davey Faragher and keyboardist Steve Nieve — along with guest vocalists Kitten Kuroi and YahZarah.
