Solar terms exhibition held in Bao’an school
    2017-03-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    外籍教师与学生同穿汉服,春分时节逛24节气展

The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides a year into 24 solar terms. The spring equinox as the fourth term of the year starts on March 20.

Lingzhi Primary School, located in Bao’an District, held an exhibition to teach students about the 24 solar terms on the spring equinox.

There were 24 booths separately introducing the 24 solar terms on the playground.

The booths were created by students and parents and besides the beautiful booths, parents and students also used couplets and foods to show every solar term’s unique characteristics. The Xiaohan booth displayed Laba porridge with a cold scene of snow and ice.

“Teaching traditional culture through the solar terms is a tradition at Lingzhi Primary School,” said teacher Duan Jinjin, adding that they used to hold a “Dragon Boat Festival Cultural Event,” “Express Filial Piety on Double Ninth Festival” and other activities.

Some students and teachers also wore Hanfu, the traditional dress of the Han people. Among them, 10 foreign teachers also wore Hanfu and played traditional Chinese games such as gobang and tuohu.

“China has so many different festivals with beautiful cultural legacies, and in the U.K. we only celebrate festivals like Christmas and Easter,” said a British teacher named Jack.
