Just the ticket
    2017-May-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A: What would you like to have, sir?

B: A good, hot cup of coffee will be just the ticket.

A: Anything else? We have a special offer on egg rolls today.

B: All right, I’d like to try them.

Note: The idiom means “exactly what is needed, exactly right.” The exact allusion is disputed — it could be to a winning lottery ticket, a price tag for merchandise, or, as one writer suggests, a corruption of the French word etiquette for “appropriate behavior.” “Ticket” sounds similar to “etiquette.” Etiquette, originating from French and Spanish, originally referred to a book of court ceremonies, which was given to those attending court and contained directions and rules for correct behavior.
