‘Top Gun’ sequel

THE followup to the 1986 action film will be titled “Top Gun: Maverick,” Tom Cruise revealed in an interview with Access Hollywood on Friday. “Oblivion” director Joseph Kosinski is circling the project, which will follow fighter pilots grappling with new drone technologies that are making their old style of flying obsolete. Cruise said the film will shoot within a year.

The original film, which starred Cruise as hot shot pilot Maverick, was directed by the late Tony Scott, and has become a classic of pop culture.

New girl

CHARLIE SHEEN stepped out with his girlfriend Jules in Santa Monica, California, on Thursday night for his daughter Lola’s 12th birthday dinner.

“This is my girlfriend,” Sheen told paparazzi outside the restaurant. “No one’s gotten a photo of it yet.” The 51-year-old “Two and a Half Men” star said the two have been linked since late last year. Denise Richards, who divorced Sheen in 2006, was also at her daughter’s birthday celebration, sharing a sweet picture of Lola about to blow out a candle to Instagram. Richards was the second wife to Sheen, who has been married three times.

Back on campus

KATIE HOLMES has officially enrolled at Harvard University. She is a new student in the famed Business of Entertainment, Media and Sports program. The popular once-a-year course, taught by professor Anita Elberse, educates students in how to manage a successful entertainment company. Holmes is joined by athletes C.J. McCollum, Rashean Mathis, Jamie Heaslip and Gerard Pique.

The 38-year-old actress owns Noelle Productions, Inc., which is an entertainment company that features her middle name. Other stars who have gone to Harvard Business School include LL Cool J, Channing Tatum and Tyra Banks.

Singer recovering

BRANDY NORWOOD was released from the hospital Friday morning after losing consciousness on a flight, and is “at home resting.”

Her rep said the singer has been traveling extensively as part of an ongoing tour and several personal appearances. “She was in the studio all night last night until it was time for her to leave for the airport to catch a 5:45 a.m. flight.”

The 38-year-old singer was found unconscious on a Delta flight that was supposed to be traveling from LAX to JFK on Friday morning.
