User data theft

Chinese authorities say they have uncovered a massive underground operation run by Apple employees selling computer and phone users’ personal data.

Twenty-two people have been detained on suspicion of infringing individuals’ privacy and illegally obtaining their digital personal information, according to a statement on June 7 from local police in eastern Zhejiang Province. Of the 22 suspects, 20 were Apple employees who allegedly used the company’s internal computer system to gather users’ names, phone numbers, Apple IDs and other data.

Robot takes test

A robot sat for the math test during China’s National College Entrance Exams in the southwestern city of Chengdu on June 7.

The robot, AI-MATHS, consisting of 11 servers, was developed by Chengdu Zhunxingyunxue Technology. It completed two versions of the exam’s math test on June 7. There are several versions of the test in different regions of China. The robot finished the Beijing test paper in 22 minutes, scoring 105 points out of 150 points, without Internet support. It scored 100 points on another version of the test.

4-D printing

A Chinese hospital announced on June 6 that doctors have recreated a breast for a cancer patient using 4-D printing.

The surgery was performed on August 8, 2016, and the printed breast has grown well with the patient’s own tissue, said Ling Rui, a vascular* surgery doctor with Xijing Hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. The patient underwent a mastectomy* for her left breast last year, before having the surgery.

Battle draws debate

A battle for use of a basketball court, between a group of elderly dancers and young basketball players, has exposed loopholes* in the urban management of Chinese cities.

The debate was sparked when a video showing a group of elderly people quarreling with several young men went viral on the Chinese Internet. Police confirmed the incident was in Luoyang City, Central China’s Henan Province.(SD-Agencies)
