Xi to visit HK President Xi Jinping will embark* on a three-day trip to Hong Kong on Thursday to attend a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China. Xi will also attend the inauguration* of the fifth administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It will be Xi’s first visit to the HKSAR since he became head of state in 2013. High-speed train China’s next generation bullet train “Fuxing” debuted on the Beijing-Shanghai line on Monday. A CR400AF model departed Beijing South Railway Station at 11:05 a.m. for Shanghai. At the same time, the CR400BF model left Shanghai Hong-qiao Railway Station for Beijing. The new bullet trains, also known as electric multiple units (EMU), boast a top speed of 400 kilometers an hour and a consistent speed of 350 kilometers an hour. The train was designed and manufactured by China. Sentence overturned In a nationally watched case, the Shandong Provincial High People’s Court cut a man’s life sentence to five years in prison on Friday after he appealed on the basis of self-defense. Yu Huan, 22, was sentenced to life in prison for intentional injury on February 17 by a court in Liaocheng, Shandong Province, after he stabbed* four debt collectors with a knife. One of them died. Yu appealed, saying that he and his mother, Su Yinxia, were confronted by several debt collectors in April 2016, and one of them insulted Su. The case ignited a public outcry after it was posted online, with many people saying the punishment was too harsh. Landslide rescue work Rescuers searching for more than 90 people missing following a huge landslide in Southwest China were ordered to evacuate* on Monday due to the risk of another collapse, Xinhua reported. Thousands of emergency workers have been digging through rocks and earth since Saturday when a landslide entombed 62 homes in Xinmo, a mountain village in Sichuan Province.
