AS new technology, concepts and models keep striking the traditional publishing industry, publications are no longer just about paper books. It can mean toys, games, movies, animation and more.

A seminar on the introduction of the cross-industry product “5,000-Year History of China” and an exhibition featuring other products, organized by Guan Shanyue Art Museum and Huazhong University of Science & Technology Press, was held at the museum Sunday. The exhibition includes popular building kits, stickers, toys and a book on history.

Prominent figures from various dynasties including Zheng He, an admiral who led voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, Western Asia and East Africa during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), were set in the background of the exhibition. While in the front, cultural products with elements of history and building kits representing the architectural style of historical dynasties were on display.

“These small houses took a lot of effort to make. We made them according to the way they were made in their respective dynasties, and all the details were honored down to the foundation and pillars. So when kids play with them, they will learn the structure of each building and in effect the history of architecture in China, which is quite a unique experience,” said Wen Ziyang, the main creator of the cross-industry product.

“Our intention when making this product was to promote traditional Chinese culture and to bring to life some heroes and their heroic deeds in history which can show our cultural heritage,” Han Zhiguo, president of Huazhong University of Science & Technology Press Children Section told the Shenzhen Daily. “The concept we want to promote is to ‘carry the history museum back home’ so that kids and teenagers can learn about our time-honored history and culture with their parents,” said Han.
