HK seeks to boost port hub status
    2017-07-03  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

HONG KONG, as a major hub port in southern China, can play an important role in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development, according to a Hong Kong government official.

Anthony Cheung, secretary for Transport & Housing, said June 14 that Hong Kong has introduced a number of measures to consolidate the city’s status as a transshipment hub to better connect the mainland with the rest of the world.

Cheung said the measures to boost Hong Kong’s maritime services industry include the deepening of the Kwai Tsing Container Basin from 15 to 17 meters to enable ultra-large container vessels to use the terminals at all tides, the provision of more port back-up sites to expand the terminal back-up yard and the offering of additional barge berths to enhance cargo handling efficiency.
