IT IS rare to see a Hongkonger using fluent English to teach foreign students Ving Tsun in Shenzhen.

Gary Lam commutes between Shenzhen and Hong Kong four or five times a week. In the daytime, he teaches Ving Tsun at a traditional Chinese martial arts school in Shenzhen. In the evening, he goes back to his home in Hong Kong.

“I came to Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center 10 years ago and there were no modern shopping malls or high-rise buildings in the area at that time. Shenzhen has developed at an astounding pace.

“I came to work in Shenzhen in 2014. I personally think that there’s more space for me to develop in Shenzhen because of the lower rent and large floating population,” he said.
