Since 2015, Shenzhen Library has held a series of public summertime activities every year from July to August. This year’s activities continue to target learning and fun through abundant reading activities and more. The program will last for two months, from July 4 to August 25. A list of the courses provided include: speed reading, introduction to ukulele, handicraft making, calligraphy and spelling. The free classes are targeted at middle and primary school readers, but are accessible to all that come without having to sign up. The seating is limited, however, and further access will be barred if the number of participants exceeds the capacity of the hall. With the exception of the ukulele and calligraphy classes, the library will provide materials for the courses. To encourage the participation of children and parents, certificates of excellence and prizes will be awarded based on attendance rates and teacher assessments. In addition to courses and activities within the library, Shenzhen Library will also organize the third parent-child “Shenzhen Memory” cultural tour. This year, participants — parents as well as children — will explore the history and culture of Shenzhen through visiting Guangming New Area. The tour will take place on July 22. Participants must sign up as a family, at the second floor service counter of Futian Library. Only 60 spots are available. Shenzhen Library is also hosting summer art activities and a lecture on classical literature. (Zhang Qian, Chen Manqi) |
