NETFLIX’S latest original film “What Happened to Monday” pairs director Tommy Wirkola with stars Glenn Close, Willem Dafoe and Noomi Rapace for a sci-fi action-adventure in which Rapace plays the multiple roles of septuplet sisters. Set in a dystopian future in which the government controls the population by allowing families to have only one child, seven sisters — Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday — struggle to stay hidden to avoid government checks. Their father (Dafoe) allows them out of the house only on the day corresponding with their name, so they maintain only one public identity. The government picks up on the scam, however, and when Monday doesn’t return home after her day out, her sisters have to band together to save her. The lead was originally written for a male actor but was rewritten. The movie will be shown on Netflix on Aug. 18 before rolling out theatrically in Europe and Asia.(SD-Agencies) |
