Out of the left field
    2017-September-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A: Do you like his paintings?

B: I’m not sure. All of his paintings are right out of left field.

Note: This idiom means “suddenly, from an unexpected source or direction, odd and unexpected.” In baseball, the left side refers to the left-hand side of the baseball field. As most batters are right-handed, they tend mostly to hit the ball into the center or right-hand side of the field, where most drama and action directly ensues. Hence, the left fielder feels like he’s left out there in the far corner of the left field, alone and inactive. If someone has come out from the left field, they’re “untypical, unusual, or strange in some way.”
