Award

THE Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) will give the 2017 Samurai Award to acclaimed musician and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. He starred opposite David Bowie in “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence” in 1983, as well as scoring the music for the film.

Sakamoto also won an Oscar, shared with David Byrne and Cong Su, for the original score of Bernardo Bertolucci’s “The Last Emperor” (1987). His life and artistry are the subject of a new documentary, “Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda,” which premiered earlier this month at the Venice Film Festival. TIFF runs from Oct. 25 to Nov. 3.

New release date

“A STAR Is Born,” which Bradley Cooper directed and stars in with Lady Gaga, is moving up from its previous berth of Sept. 28, 2018, to May 18, 2018. That takes it out of the fall season, the traditional ground for more serious fare.

The movie, based on the 1937 film starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, centers on a movie star who helps an aspiring young actress find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral.

‘A Christmas Story’

MATTHEW BRODERICK, a two-time Tony winner, has been tapped to serve as the narrator in Fox’s “A Christmas Story” live musical.

Broderick steps up to the microphone previously held by Jean Shepherd, the narrator and adult Ralphie Parker in the 1983 classic. Based on the short stories of Midwestern humorist Shepherd, the musical is set in the 1940s, when all 9-year-old Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun.

KYLIE JENNER is pregnant, People reported. The 20-year-old reality star and business mogul is due in February.

Jenner has been dating rapper Travis Scott since earlier this year after splitting from her on-again, off-again boyfriend Tyga in April.
